Experiments on modelling and texturing a 3D virus. In early 2020 when I first heard that there was a viral infection spreading in China I modelled, textured and animated a virus model based on my research about this Corona Virus / Covid thing. At that time I didn’t even think that would spread globally.
My process included MoGraph cloners, several effectors for adding randomness, noise types for movement and Volumetric modelling features of Cinema4D. I also experimented with Redshift shaders and lighting setups for a macro look.
I didn’t want to make this too complicated so I rendered a looped animation and composited it in After Effects with a several particle systems and some camera motion in a 3D environment.
